Summer
1:1 Tutoring
(Mondays-Thursdays, 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.; Fridays, 8:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon, $35 hourly) Summer is a great time for remediation. If your children have struggled in reading, math, or language OR if spring testing indicated weaknesses in specific academic areas, work with QuesTECH Learning’s professionals as they help students master all-important skills and build self-confidence. Also, summer is the perfect time to enrich students in a specific area to jump start performance for the fall term.
Robotics Camp
(July 17-21, 9:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.; students bring lunches; $250, materials included. Space limited to 20 students in grades 4-8.) QuesTECH Learning is excited to bring the best in robotics education to students this summer as they learn to build, program, and control VEX robotics and then vie for best-in-class competition at week’s end.
A+ Certification Pilot Program
(July 10-14, 9:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.; NO FEE; FREE!) Ten committed high school students who are computer literate receive weeklong instruction followed by several check-up sessions as they progress on their journey to become a certified computer repair technician with instructor Vernon Bush. Students will also create robots during session work and will be potentially invited to compete at a regional competition as well.
Code to Success
(June 6-9/June 13-16/June 20-23/June 27-30, 3-4:30 P.M., $150 weekly) These week-long workshops will improve not only computer skills but also engage students to design their own websites. Web development is an invaluable skill, one necessary to prepare students for a variety of tech and business careers.
Mandarin Chinese
(Scheduled at students’ convenience, $35 hourly in age appropriate groups or 1:1 tutoring) Using the Growing Participators Approach, Erika Stuckey uses interactive techniques to help students learn to understand Mandarin and eventually to speak that language.
Summer Book Club
(Small groups or one-on-one in June-July, afternoons 1-3:00, $25 hourly) Teacher-assigned summer reading. Students may either begin the summer OR end July working on their summer reading assignments. These literature groups will focus on core curriculum comprehension skills as these skills relate to books assigned by your student’s school.
Handwriting
(Mondays/Wednesdays, 1-2, or Tuesdays/Thursdays, 11-12, June 5-22 or July 10-27, $200) Students learn correct cursive penmanship in a small group.
Kindergarten Readiness
(July 10-26, 1.5 hour class, 6 sessions, Mondays & Wednesdays, 9-10:30, $225) The Sing, Spell, Read, Write program prepares children for kindergarten using a multisensory approach to learning the skills.
Kindergarten Review
(June 13-29, 1.5 hour class, 6 sessions, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10-11:00 A.M. or 1-2:00 P.M., $225) Students review kindergarten skills in reading and math in fun, multi-sensory, hands on sessions.
First Grade Review
(June 12-28 or July 10-26, 1 hour class, 3 weeks, Monday & Wednesdays 10-11:00, $200) Students review 1st grade math and reading skills in a small group.
Second Grade Review
(June 13-29 or July 11-27; 1 hour class, 3 weeks, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9-10:00 A.M. or 3-4:00 P.M., $200) Students review 2nd grade math and reading skills in a small group.
Acing Math—One Deck at a Time!
(June 7-28 for Grades 1-3 or July 12-August 2 for Grades 3-6; 1 hour class for 4 weeks, Wednesdays, 1-2:00, $100) Using Positive Engagement Project materials/games, this class makes learning math fun for students. Core skills covered include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as well as fractions, percents, decimals, patterns, positive/negative integers as well as other valuable concepts.
Keyboarding
(1 hour daily for two weeks, Mondays-Thursdays; schedule at family’s convenience, $200) Become a touch-typist at a faster rate than your handwriting speed through touch-typing using the computer keyboard. The goal of the program is students’ learning proper keyboarding techniques and correct key stroking.
Comprehension Connections
(June 6-June 29, Tuesdays & Thursdays—Grades 3-4, 9-10:00; Grades 5-6, 10-11:00, $200) Comprehension Connections develops ability to understand texts by making the comprehension process achievable. Inferring questions, determining importance, and visualizing become easier for students.
ACT English Preparation
(Eight one-hour sessions, Mondays/Wednesdays, 1-2:00 P.M., June or July. $250) This class reviews ACT skills in usage and mechanics, sentence structure, and rhetorical skills.
ACT Math/Science Preparation
(Eight one-hour sessions, Tuesdays/Thursdays, 1-2:00 or 2-3:00 P.M., June or July. $250) This instruction provides a skill and strategy base for high school students to improve ACT math and science reasoning scores.
Speed Reader
(Ten one-hour sessions scheduled at students’ convenience, $250) SR improves speed, comprehension, and self -confidence for 6th grade-adult students. Speed Reader is especially effective for timed tests including ACT or SAT.
Creative Writing
(July 11-14/July 18-21/July 25-28, 3-4:30 P.M., $150 weekly) Middle school students tap their creativity through poetry, prose, and flash fiction as they create original works and discuss the importance of keeping a writing portfolio.
Advanced Reading Skills
(Scheduled appointments, $35 hourly) Advanced Reading Skills improves reading skills for junior high students from basic context and meaning to technical comprehension and higher order critical thinking skills.
Study Skills Workshops
(July 17-20, grades 4-5; July 24-27, grades 6-8; 1-3:00 P.M., $125) Organization techniques, test-taking strategies, relaxation as a key to success, note-taking are just a few of the skills covered in these valuable workshops.
Learning through Movement
Yoga is now recognized as one of the most effective ways to support focus and concentration, to reduce stress, to build self-confidence, to ease anxiety and tension for pre-test and performance jitters, and to offer therapeutic benefits in academic settings. One-on-one or small group instruction will provide proper breathing and relaxation techniques, mindful meditation, and basic yoga poses. Call to schedule one-on-one sessions or to be included in group workshops.
