Academics

Curriculum:

QuesTECH Learning utilizes the Schools PLP curriculum hub to enhance and lead student learning. In addition, each core subject follows a further curriculum to promote maximum student growth and development academically, by teaching to mastery.

Reading Fluency and Comprehension: We teach this through the combination of multi-structured, multi-sensory programs such as Orton-Gillingham, as well as computer programs. Phonetic readers for the younger students, novels, and a structured and sequential reading series for the older students complete the reading program.

Mathematics: We teach this through the use of Saxon Math series as primary texts. Math instructors teach applied computation for solving word problems, measurement, time, and money.

Written Expression: We place special emphasis on written language, as it is especially important. Learners will be able to write clearly, concisely, and properly in letters, non-fiction, and fiction. Both in-class and home-based assignments established the basis of and further reinforced effective written expression.

Social Studies and Science: We delve into social studies during the first semester; science, in the second. Teachers use hands-on learning to bring social studies and science to life for learners.

Computer Technology: We deploy Chromebook touchscreen laptops to all learners on a 1:1 basis. These devices are available to learners here at QTL and also at home. QuesTECH Learning is an educational partner with Google, utilizing Google Suite for Education (GS4E). Assignments, student submissions, calendars, and communications flow through GS4E and allow for complete parental oversight and review.  Chromebooks and GS4E are integrated throughout the day at QTL. Learners in grades three through eight also spend one hour daily in the learning lab using remediation/enrichment software that pretests students to determine deficiencies in English/language arts, and math, and then designs an individual curriculum especially for them to meet their specific areas of need within each subject.

Placement:

To determine academic placement, learners take diagnostic tests. To ensure appropriate remediation and challenge, teachers at any time during the year request movement of learners to another level of instruction. Eighth graders who are ready for an academic challenge have the opportunity to take courses for high school credit through Schools PLP.

Course Levels:

Since each individual learns differently, QuesTECH Learning offers all subjects on individualized levels.

GRADE LEVEL COURSE:  This level meets the needs of most learners.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE:  This curriculum is designed for the gifted learner or the learner who can succeed at a more challenging level.

MODIFIED COURSE:  Teachers present the same content at the grade level but use modifications/accommodations required as described in each learner’s Student Educational Plan (SEP).

Admissions

Open Enrollment:

QuesTECH Learning has an open, non-discriminatory admissions policy. QTL welcomes and admits qualified learners regardless of race, creed, color, ethnic identity, religion, sex, gender, nationality, or place of origin. QTL  is well suited for high-potential students whose primary challenge is dyslexia and/or ADHD and/or autism. The school does not admit students who struggle in school because of behavioral difficulties, severe attention problems, severe receptive and expressive language disorders, or less-than-average intellectual abilities. The approximate 1:8 teacher-to-learner ratio enables a learner to enter our program during the year while minimizing transition problems and issues.

Tuition:

Tuition costs for a full academic year include $7600, a $50 art fee, and a $250 fundraiser ticket sales commitment. Learners are provided a new Chromebook computer for use at QTL as well as at home. The academic year begins in August and ends in May. QuesTECH Learning follows the local public school schedules as closely as possible. Fees for learners who enroll for less than a year are prorated. Parents are required to participate in the annual fundraiser sponsored by QuesTECH Learning.

Payment:

The Tuition Payment Agreement enables parents to pay tuition by the month or by semester. A $250 discount aids parents who pay tuition in full as of August 1 of the current year. QuesTECH Learning does participate in the  Louisiana Scholarship Program as well as the Tuition Donation Rebate Program  (Arete Scholars and Ace Scholarships). Call for information. Student fee policy may be reviewed HERE.

Lunch:

QuesTECH Learning asks that learners bring their lunches Mondays-Thursdays. On Fridays, QTL provides a special lunch for learners; parents send money to cover the cost of Friday lunches, usually $6, including a beverage.
